Mary is mainly a self-taught artist. Although, she did have a couple of basic art classes in High School and College, and in 1994 she too the Northlight Art of School's basic correspondence course. She has taken two Water color workshops. One with Jackie Zumalt and one with Paul Anderberg.
She has been painting in oils for over 30 years and just started to work seriously in 1994, after raising five children and moving all over the US and even Germany for a year as a military dependent.
When she was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1983-1984, she entered some of
her work in the Alaska State Fair and won second and third place ribbons.
She moved to Idaho in 1988. In 1991 she remarried and moved to White Bird, ID.
In 1993 she joined the Central Idaho Artist's Association. She has been entering their Spring Art show since that time and she also has entered her work in the Idaho County State Fair. In 1996 she participated in Artwalk in Sandpoint, ID.
In 1999, 2001, 2002 she was accepted into the Lewis and Clark Center for the
Arts and History, to participate in the Dogwood Festival. One of her
pieces, "Retirement", won the People's Choice Award in 1999. The same
piece also won People's Choice Award at the CIAA Spring Art Show. It was
also a finalist in the 2000 "American Artist" magazine's art competition and was
featured in their October 2000 issue. And it won first place in the Salmon
River Art Guild's 1999 competition.
Her Painting, "Distant Memories" won first place in the CIAA 2000 Spring Art
Show as well as first place in the Idaho Landscape Award at the 2000 Idaho
County Fair.
In 2001 CIAA Spring Art Show her painting, "Haven", won a first place and People's Choice Award as well as Best of Show in the 2001 Idaho County Fair.
This summer (2002) she was invited to participate in the "Memories of the
Palouse & Prairie" show at Lewis & Clark Center for the Arts & History. She was
also one of the featured artists in their calendar. I participated in the
Salmon River Art Guild Show in October of 2002 and won first place for "Hometown
Pride". She participated in the Snake River Showcase in November 2002.
Her Painting "New Beginnings" won first place in Pastels.
Currently her work is for sale on this page and, in the White Bird Summit Gift shop, the Center Pieces Gift shop in Lewiston, Wild West Images and Design, Grangeville, Mac's in White Bird, and the White Bird Store.
